Built in the Gothic Revival style in 1867, the house was once used as a staging post for Cobb & Co. coaches. It was built for John Galletly, manager of the Geelong branch of the London Chartered bank and husband to a daughter of the Armytage family. By the 1920's it had been converted into a farm training school for British migrants/returned service men of the Great War, with the latter being accommodated in 40 houses on the property.
